    Description

    Cosmic Percussion Conga Drum
For sale is a Cosmic Percussion (CP) Quinto size conga drum, made by Latin Percussion company, in excellent condition.
This is an early model of CP conga (heavy duty hardware, traditional rim), CP conga drums of this era get very favorable online comments in the conga sites. It had a comfort curve pre-mounted head on it when I acquired it that could not seat properly so I took some time to re-skin it about 6 months ago (I did the reskin work...done 10 or so reskins of congas/bongos ...see photos of the reskin in process on this drum.
    GENERAL CONDITION:
this drum has perfect structural integrity, it been well used but not abused.
    HARDWARE:
see photos, just a bit of pitting, etc. on chrome but has superb luster, the rim is round, the lugs are straight, no dents or bent parts, all lugs have the factory Super Nuts, the hardware is made of the heaviest gauge metal and it appears exactly the same gauge that is used on the LP-branded drums of the time and now, in fact this hardware is interchangeable with the hardware on my 1970s era LP brand palisades park quinto, same gauge parts, has heavy duty plates inside the drum backing the lug plates so this drum can really be torqued without worry.
    SHELL CONDITION:
see photos, has surface marks on the shell but no cracks, no chips, no deep gouges, the shell is structurally perfect, the crown is excellent, the shell is round its entire length, there have been 3 small holes that were partially filled but never sanded (the holes where there when I got the drum), the metal banding has light marks from the usual bumping into other drums placed alongside it but these marks disappear from sight at a short distance back, bottom metal trim ring is round and mounted securely with just the usual wear on its bottom.
    SKIN:
the hide is steer skin from Puerto Rico according to its local seller, the hide is more like a bongo thickness, I also re-skinned both the hembra and macho of a pair bongos with these hides and they sound great.
    SOUND:
no buzzes or unwanted sounds out of the drum, just pure conga tones, a very lively drum that really projects (louder than my pp quinto). This drum is very precise so it's easy to tune and holds tune, To give an idea of this drum's tonal quality, I hear it sounding the way the conga sounds to me on the track 'Cucumber Slumber' on Weather Report's Mysterious Traveler album (pretty sure that's Ray Barretto on that track working his magic with just one drum, I believe).
    REASON FOR SELLING:
I have too many drums at the moment (I have been having fun with congas since 1972 so I buy/sell/refub as much as possible). NOTHING WRONG AT ALL WITH THIS DRUM SO BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
